Carnivores (series)/YMMV

Alternative Character Interpretation: One can play the game totally in debug mode and pretend to be a Humanoid Abomination version of the Hulk that uses guns and Max Payne-esque bullet time to gun down the poor little dinosaurs. It's rather fitting.
Crowning Moment of Awesome: Killing a T-Rex without using debug mode.
Crowning Moment of Funny: Getting killed by said T-Rex, which throws you about like a ragdoll, then smashes you against the ground. It's vaguely reminiscent of an orca pod playing with seals...
Excuse Plot: Lasts about as long as it takes to go from picking a character to your first hunt. Then it's all about the dinos. In a way, it's actually subverted... indecisively... because there are little mini stories within the maps, sometimes explicitly, and sometimes only seen when you go exploring.
Goddamned Bats: Velociraptors are this, due to a bit of Fake Difficulty. They look almost identical to the Gallimimus, a harmless ambient creature. You can't really tell the difference sometimes until the raptor is in your face... It also doesn't help that the raptors are small targets which move very quickly and swerve to avoid fire. Thankfully, they go down very fast, however.
- Also, the flying ambient creatures, which tend to make loud noises at inopportune times. As far as is known, this doesn't actually set off other dinosaurs (perhaps the AI isn't that complex, though it would be even more nightmarish if it was), but it does tend to make you jump, and could throw off your aim. Unless you go into debug mode, they aren't even worth the bullets, either.
High Octane Nightmare Fuel: Hunting T-Rex. Oh, where to begin. First, it's quite possible that there's other predators, who can and will kill you. If the prey detects you before you see it, you're screwed, because you have no chance once it's running. When it does detect you, you have a very limited amount of time to land a shot (especially if you're trying to do it with the shotgun, which is pump-action). It's incredibly disturbing to think about the kind of person who not only would want to do that in real life, but who would pay to do it.
