Black Panther (film)/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Deus Ex Machina: Some argue that Vibranium is like the eagles and even joking around that Vibranium can solve everything.
  • Draco in Leather Pants: While Killmonger's childhood was genuinely traumatic, his loud fanbase would have you believe that he's a blameless Woobie instead of a man who can accurately be described as "black Hitler". Then there are those who agree with his genocidal endgame and see nothing wrong with it.
  • Hype Backlash: It broke the record for highest earning movie in the american domestic market, and got an Oscar nomination for Best Picture. Many people believe it's a generic action movie which only earned so many nominations in the United States because the hero is black. It doesn't help that despite receiving even more acclaim, the film in which Black Panther next appeared, Avengers: Infinity War, didn't receive any Oscar nominations except for Special Effects. Nor did it receive any nominations outside technical awards with the exception of genre-specific awards, and the one nomination for acting it received from the BET Awards was for T'Challa's actor, Chadwick Boseman, furthering accusations of Positive Discrimination.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks: Some say that Black Panther sucks because it's too similar to Thor: Ragnarok: Odin/T'Chaka has a mysterious past, which was hidden from the whole kingdom (and the royal family). Which involves the hero(es)' evil cousin, Hela/Erik, who claims that they're also the rightful heir to the throne and uses their might to laid waste the kingdom/plotting to conduct an international revolution.
  • Moral Event Horizon: It's hard to peg exactly where Killmonger crosses this, but most viewers tend to cite either his cruel murder of his girlfriend or his order to burn all the other heart-shaped herbs, showing how flippant he truly is to Wakandan culture.
