Akira/Heartwarming

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Kaneda vowing to kill Tetsuo before letting Kei risk her life trying, and then finally kissing her.
  • In the Manga, Kaori being designated as Akira's 'nanny', and taking care of him. She's actually quite nice about it and treats him very like a normal little kid.
  • Another Kaori one from the comic: the way Tetsuo tries to bring her back from the brink of dead and preserves her after she is shot. Crosses with Tear Jerker and finally Crowning Moment of Awesome when Tetsuo starts to deal with those who shot her.
  • Kaisuke and Kei's first meeting after the Neo-Tokyo apocalypse. They recognize each other among the refugees in the surrpundings of the temple, and for the first time in a LONG time, they both smile and laugh genuinely.
  • In the movie, after Kei successfully escaped a mall bombing her group caused, she finds herself at an aquaduct with a gun Ryu gave her. When the military chases her, she mostly shot at them, but missed as a scare tactic. However, when she gets cornered by two soldiers, Kaneda manages to subdue one by dropping on him, falling into the water in the process. When he's preoccupied with coughing out the water, he accidentally swallowed the second soldier was about to execute him on the spot. Kei, whom earlier gave Kaneda the cold shoulder, demands the soldier not to shoot him and seconds later shoots the soldier in the face to save Kaneda. You can tell by the look on her face after that she never killed anyone before and Kaneda has to snap her out of her funk to get to safety. This comes into play later on when she tries to convince Ryu to accept Kaneda's help in recovering Tetsuo. Even if Kei didn't reciprocate Kaneda's initial advances, she wasn't gonna stand idly by while a soldier was unhesitatingly about to shoot a teen.
  • The last images of the manga, as Kaneda and his surviving friends ride off into the ruins of Neo Tokyo, with memories of their deceased friends Tetsuo and Yamagata riding alongside them, while Neo-Tokyo symbolically rebuilds itself as they progress into it.
