* Lee Harvey Oswald's assassination by Jack Ruby. Of course, there are still those who believe otherwise...
* Ellie Nesler. She shot and killed the man who was accused of molesting young boys including her then six-year old son at a courtroom. While her act of murdering a pedophile was initially seen as justified given the obvious depravity, it became clear that she was no better off as she was under the influence of meth when she carried out the execution, and was herself later convicted of selling and possessing meth.

* This sort of thing happens all the time in countries where war or, internal strife or a dysfunctional justice system (due to rampant corruption no less) leaves the general public vulnerable to violent crime.

** Indian gangster and serial rapist Akku Yadav got the time of his life when a woman named Usha Narayane resisted Akku and his gang, prompting an angry mob to burn down his house and lynch the hell out of him despite protection from Dirty Cops whom he sought protection with. At the courthouse where the bail hearing was supposed to take place, over two hundred women showed up armed with knives, stones and chilli powder and vented their anger towards the sex offender, who was systematically stabbed, stoned, thrown chilli powder at and even got to the point where one of his alleged victims hacked off his penis. Needless to say, Akku died a horrific death at the hands of his victims and those who took matters into their own hands. While some of the women involved in the vigilante murder of Akku were arrested and charged, they were later acquitted both due to public pressure and the circumstances involved; a retired court judge sided with the women, citing the failure of the local justice system to protect ordinary citizens.
