The film starts with a reporter, John Klein ([[Pretty Woman|Richard]] [[Runaway Bride|Gere]]), and his wife Mary ([[Will and Grace|Debra Messing]]) looking for a new house. They get into a car accident, supposedly caused by the Mothman, and Mary exclaims, "Didn't you see it?" She is later diagnosed with a brain tumor and dies soon after. Before she dies, she draws [[Nightmare Fuel|some really creepy pictures of the Mothman]].
