OMF Gcata is a YouTube channel focused on gaming. Founded by Jesse Cox, OMF Gcata (aka OMFG Gaming) has become a center of comedic Let's Plays that has attracted quite a strong fan base. While Jesse originally started his channel by posting videos focused on World of Warcraft: Cataclysm (hence the title of the YouTube channel), he has since branched out into other games such as Minecraft and Terraria. Since the channel was founded, several other members have joined the OMFG Cata team, including Pride (aka The Smoking Gamer), Blondie, the Co-Dependent Girls (Aevynne, Trish, and Chiib) and the regular builders of the Minecraft RPG Makers series. Needless to say, Hilarity Ensues.

A member of The Game Station, and occasional collaborator with fellow members Total Biscuit and the Yogscast.

You can find his YouTube channel here, OMFGCata.

Tropes that apply to OMFG Cata:

Jesse: Oh! Oh! That was like what's-his-face in that movie! Where he does the thing to the guy!... Troy, that's the movie.

  • Couch Gag: The end of every Saints Row the Third video has Jesse and/or Crendor trying to rap (with varying levels of success).
  • Cuckoolander Commentator: Especially when paired up with more serious players like TotalBiscuit.
  • Cultural Translation: In the fourth episode of The Game Station Podcast, Jesse and friends conclude that Canada either has ultra-violent or super-stereotypically-nice versions of games.
  • Deadpan Snarker:
    • "Lizzie" is described in this way in the Skyrim playthrough, often keeping a straight face in the middle of Jesse's silly antics and mentally retorting to Jesse's bad jokes. But he doesn't actually talk outside of "personality".
    • Kiskae would like to think of himself as one, making subtle remarks in the chat for anyone with a keen eye during the "RPG Makers" videos and invoking the trope directly with a Shout-Out to this very page. But like Lizzie, he doesn't actually talk, and it's difficult to communicate sarcasm through telepathy and texts.
      • Kiskae arguably qualifies as a Silent Snarker, since 90% of the RPG Makers episodes are Jesse and the crew pissing around while he rolls his metaphorical eyebrows and does the actual work.
  • The Ditz: Jesse. It's bad when even "leading" the RPG Makers, people doubt his intelligence.

Omzit: When Jesse knows more than you, there's something wrong. [1]

Jesse as father: Come on kids, we're moving to the Fields of Misery!

As kids: Yay!!

  • Innocent Innuendo: Jesse drops them on occasions.
  • Insistent Terminology: He keeps calling Ghostz_eu 'Comrade Creeper' when his avatar is essentially a communist slime. Ghostz used to correct him before but now has given up. A bit of Fridge Logic because Lewis' skin (slime in a labcoat) is called 'Dr. Slime '
  • Kleptomaniac Hero: Much to the butt-clenching of fans and friends alike (either for too much of this or too little), Jesse plays his characters this way. See his Let's Play of Deus Ex Human Revolution, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, RAGE, Skyrim... actually, see any playthrough with a looting system.
  • Large Ham: After all, he is CRIMNOX THE SORCERER!
  • Man of a Thousand Voices: Jesse is actually a professional voice actor.
  • Misplaced Nationalism: Invoked and parodied by the crew (especially the RPG Makers), because of how there's just as many Europeans as Americans working together. Even though they're all good friends having fun, there's very likely to be some mention of another country followed by pointing and laughing. Especially Denmark and America.
  • Missing Episode: The three lost Terraria videos. All of them had the videos lost (the second and third by accidental deletion on TB's part) but the audio saved, and TB has released the second and third lost episodes (meant to be before episode 32) as an audio podcast. The first one, meant to be before episode 13, has not been released, though.
  • National Stereotypes: Numerous are played with. Especially prominent in the RPG Makers series, where half the on-screen cast is from America and an increasing majority are from mainland Europe: they will jibe on stereotypes, such as Omzit demanding that Jesse "give him his money" because of America's debt.
    • Jesse in return has an exaggerated "Durka durka"-type voice impression of Sweden, Holland, Finland, and even Germany.
    • Also includes self-lampooning, such as Mike's legendary ironic phrase "Trust us, we're Americans."
  • Non-Indicative Name: While OMF Gcata obviously stood for "OMFG + Cataclysm", the channel has since expanded into general gaming content, though World of Warcraft content is still prominent. As Jesse has posted on his FAQ's on top of the channel box, OMF Gcata stands solely for World of Warcraft in the same way that Total Halibut is about fishing.
    • The OMFG part is now a Backronym for "One Moderately Funny Gamer"... Which is still partly inaccurate, considering how often Jesse collaborates with other people.
    • It has now been extended to, as of the second Game Station Podcast, "One Moderately Funny Gamer Constantly Annoying Those Around."
  • Older Than They Look:
    • Jesse is, unbelievably enough, a 30 year old man who still keeps in step with teenagers today on internet fads. Lampshaded by Total Biscuit, who is 27 and still more mature than Jesse, in their Terraria Let's Play.
    • Further Lampshaded in the 6th Podcast, when Jesse comments that TB sounds like an old man reminiscing on the old days of online play, TB snarks that among he, Jesse and Simon together, he's the youngest male there.
    • Jesse has started transcending into Man Child territory with the 8th podcast, when he showcased a video by Lucahjan that contained nothing but testicle jokes, and TB starts questioning his maturity.
  • One-Scene Wonder:
    • The naked baby in the RPG Makers series.
    • Jesse's cleaning lady in the 10th TGS podcast, who had the entire panel collapsing for almost a minute, and spawned a fanart ten minutes later.
  • Patriotic Fervour: Briefly becomes a patriotic, bomb-throwing Texan in his Terraria series.
  • Running Gag:
    • Can you hit a lick on some brick and go ham on it?
    • Meeuwes has diamonds on his neck, bitch. Seen mostly in his Minecraft skin.
      • Danish?!
    • Omzit and his supposed diet of shark balls.
    • Cloud McLongfoot.
    • '"Oooh! My butthole is so clenched with anger!"'
    • Jesse's and Total Biscuit's ineptitude with explosives in their Terraria Let's Play.
      • Jesse constantly falling to his death. Especially after TB got a Lucky Horseshoe that he had earlier promised to give to Jesse to prevent such occurances.
    • When he was doing videos of the Worgen starting zone in the Cataclysm beta, any mention or meeting with Darius Crowley is accompanied by a clip of "MISTER CROOOOOOOOWWLEY" *bum bum bum*
    • "Oh, Garlic! I can use that for crafting!"
  • Rule 34 Creator Reactions: Jesse knows there is Rule 34 about him and TB, and his response: Write more and add tentacles and Warcraft females. TB's response, meanwhile, is a Flat What and declaration of losing the will to live (more-so than usual with Jesse).
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: Jesse in his Amnesia the Dark Descent Let's Play, starting at part 20.
  • Self-Deprecation: The 6th podcast (a.k.a. the one with Simon), Jesse wholeheartedly declares that that episode was his 'last day on the internet', himself as 'the American Simon', and that [to Simon] "I'll never be better than you!!" Oh, come on, you know he's lying!
  • Serial Escalation: Just look at the progress that has been made in the RPG Makers series.
    • Jesse intends to do everything there is to do in Skyrim. His response to those who doubt him? Bitch, please, I'm doing everything.
  • Shock and Awe: If there's a skill/spell in a game that lets you use lightning, most likely Jesse will be using it. And he will say UNLIMITED! POWAAAAH!
  • Shout-Out: Mentions that Freddy, Jason, both Alien and Predator, and even the sharks that ate Samuel L. Jackson in Deep Blue Sea can climb ladders when the Co-Dependent girls ask what monsters can in his Amnesia the Dark Descent Let's Play, part 20.
  • Special Guest:
    • In the "Eye of the Creeper" video, SlyFoxHound (from Machinima Realm) drops by to offer Jesse some advice on Minecraft. And also to blow up his shanty. Later, Sly pops in on an RPG Makers Minisode, only to get shot at by arrows as the crew test out their newly trapped puzzles.
    • The Yogscast did as well for one episode, also trying to give Jesse Minecraft advice.
  • Straight Man and Wise Guy: Jesse manages to be both sides of this with different people - he plays the wise guy to Total Biscuit's straight man, but also plays the straight man to Crendor's wise guy.
  • Take a Third Option: Invoked brilliantly at the climax of Deus Ex: Human Revolution's The Missing Link DLC: When presented the final choice of diverting gas to save the scientist or the prisoners, Jesse reasons out that one could simply shoot the gas-dispersal method after wandering around brainstorming.
  • Tempting Fate: Lewiscollom (Dr. Slime) declared a Youtube-wide challenge that someone make a Stupid Statement Dance Mix of an inexplicably fast sentence that Jesse made. Here is the result in Dubstep.
  • Too Dumb to Live: In Amnesia the Dark Descent part 22, Jesse tries to climb inside of and close the doors of an iron maiden. And then he tries to do it again so that he could read the text that appears upon clicking on the thing normally. Not 5 minutes later, he tries to jump inside of a brass bull. Lampshaded by the Co-Dependent girls on both occasions.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds:
    • Jesse with Total Biscuit. Even his video announcing him joining The Game Station mentioned how he hated TB.
    • Jesse has a one-sided "love" of Trish. They are genuinely friends though, or so they say...
  • Wiseguy:
  • The Uriah Gambit: Jesse attempts one of these in Part 34 of his Terraria Let's Play, luring a Wyvern into combat in an effort to kill Total Biscuit. This being Jesse, however, it backfires, with the Wyvern murdering Jesse twice and wreaking havoc within the duo's base.

"And as always...to be continued."
