Cox and Combes' Washington is a 2½-minute long musical short created by Brad Neely. The short was what first garnered Neely the attention of Super Deluxe.com. As its name suggests the short centered around a Memetic Badass revision of George Washington as narrated by the Creased Comics characters Cox and Combes. The short derives its humor mostly from visual gags and the larger than larger than life exploits of George Washington.
The Short includes the following tropes:
- Acid Pool: Washington dunks an opponent's wife's hand into a jar of acid. At a party.
- Ambiguously Gay: Cox and Combes seem a bit too concerned with how many testicles and/or penises George Washington possessed.
- Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking
- Attack of the Fifty Foot Whatever: Twelve stories tall made of radiation. The present beware, the future beware, he's coming, he's coming.
- Authority Equals Asskicking
- Badass: George Washington, in spades.
- Big Eater: At one point Washington apparently eats the entire rear half of a nearby deer with a single bite.
- Brain Food
- Combo Platter Powers: Washington is shown to shoot lasers, fly, have super strength, control water, kick people in half, and swordfight.
- Even the Guys Want Him: Go on guess who.
- Eye Beams: How Washington kills with a stare.
- Galant Stroll
- Heroic Comedic Sociopath: Washington again.
"Washington, Washington/ Six foot 20, fucking killing for fun."
—Cox and Combes
|
- Historical Badass Upgrade: Though it's irrefutably true that Washington performed most of the actions in the video, Cox and Combes give him several extra penises.
- Hookers and Blow: Washington INVENTED cocaine.
- Insistent Terminology: His enemies are always called "opponents".
- Interspecies Romance: With bears.
- Kick the Dog: Plenty of it on Washington's part. Its balanced out by the fact that he's the loving owner of a pet Schnauzer.
- Made of Plasticine: Washington's opponents, although its also possible that he really is strong enough to kick a man in half.
- Manly Tears: When Washington kills his sensei in a duel. (But never says why).
- Pet the Dog: Washington saving children... as long as they're not British.
- Rule of Funny
- Running Gag: Washington's height increases each time it's mentioned.
- Shout Out: At one point one of the characters brandishes one of Prince's custom, stylized guitars while paraphrasing a line from the song 1999.
- Also, instead of just crossing the Delaware, Washington parts it ala Moses.
- Spiritual Successor: JFK, featuring a combination Memetic Badass/Memetic Sex God John F Kennedy.
- Up to Eleven: As noted above, Washington's size and greatness increase with every chorus line. At the start Washington is "Six foot Eight" and "Weighs a Fucking Ton" by the end he's "Twelve Stories High" and "Made of Radiation".
