Pithy sentences are like sharp nails which force truth upon our memory.
Denis Diderot
A short saying oft contains much wisdom.
By necessity, by proclivity, and by delight, we all quote. In fact, it is as difficult to appropriate the thoughts of others as it is to invent.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
I hate quotation. Tell me what you know.
Also Ralph Waldo Emerson
I can remember a reporter asking me for a quote, and I didn't know what a quote was. I thought it was some kind of soft drink.
Joe DiMaggio
I thought it was a character from...oh wait, that's a spoiler.
A witty saying proves nothing.
"Always be wary of people who use quotes." I don't know who said that.
Murdoc Niccals, Gorillaz
The ability to quote is a serviceable substitute for wit.
W. Somerset Maugham
Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.
Most of the time there's room for just one more on top...
Uncyclopedia on Oscar Wilde on quotes
Some for renown, on scraps of learning dote, And think they grow immortal as they quote.
Edward Young
What's the use of a good quote if you can't change it?
Life itself is a quotation.
This page uses a lot of quotes.
One must be a wise reader to quote wisely and well.
—A. Bronson Alcott
More than one page-top quote just gets in the way. Use the Quotes page for the rest.

TV Tropes Wiki, "TV Tropes More Like TV Quotes"

A Wiki Trope about that lesser dreaded malady of the Wiki: page quote overdose. On occasions, a brief and snappy Epigraph at the header of the page can far more easily capture the gist of a trope than the descriptive text below it. And maybe another quote can serve to give a different angle on the trope. But then someone else just happens to find this really bonzer new quote that is positively sidesplitting, and, rather than be so bold as to slice out a previous quote, they just append it to the rest of them.

Tut, tut! Now half of the article has been pushed under the window. That's not good!

This is another case of Too Much Of A Good Thing, and an instance where the Wiki Magic gets a bit out of control, Sorcerer's Apprentice-style. It gets even worse when they leave off the quote template markup ({{quote|... }}), leaving the text normal-sized and indistinguishable from the body. That is usually fixed, though, but people don't always catch it.

If you find a page like this, please consider moving most or all of the quotes to the related Quotes subpage, or failing that, Category:Quotes.

Oh my God! TV Tropes used one of my quotes!
