"Featured Articles" are pages on All The Tropes chosen to be highlighted on the wiki's home page because of their quality, their importance as a work or concept, or because they're fun to read. Whenever a user opens the wiki's home page, an article to feature will be selected for display. Part of the purpose behind Featured Articles is to direct new or infrequent users of the wiki to "the best of the best".

While the wiki moderators chose the initial set of articles, any ATT user can nominate a page for Featured Article status.

Nomination Process

Articles are nominated by adding them to this page in the section below. Periodically, the moderators will go through the list that has accumulated, evaluate the nominations, and add those pages they think make the grade to the list of pages to be displayed. Then the nomination section of this page will be blanked to await new suggestions.

Please note that once a page is on the featured list, it is there permanently -- there's no need to flog a page by submitting it over and over again after it's already been selected. On the other hand, it's always okay to resubmit a page that didn't make the grade previously -- it may have been dramatically rewritten since the last time it was nominated, and might pass muster this time around.

What Qualifies an Article as a Feature?

As a rule Featured Articles should follow the guidelines here as closely as possible.

1. Is this page not already a Featured Article?
2. Is the page well written?
  • Is it free from excessive grammar, spelling or typographical errors?
  • Is it well-structured and long enough to do its subject justice? Three-line descriptions of an obscure video game are not likely to qualify.
  • Is it properly marked-up and laid out?
3. Is this page complete or stable?
  • If the page is constantly being changed or modified it may be best to let the Wiki Magic finish its work before nominating it.
4. If a trope page, does it describe a well-defined concept thoroughly, clearly and (preferably) with wit?
  • Does it have more than the minimum of three examples, and are they properly sorted by medium?
5. If a works page, does it clearly describe the work and its importance?
  • Does it concisely lay out the premise and plot of the work, without spoiling anything?
  • Does it touch upon important themes and patterns in the work?
  • Does it include some discussion of the influence the work has had?
6. If a creator page, is it more than just a brief biography and a list of works?
7. Is the page entertaining?
  • Theoretically all our pages are entertaining, but let's just be sure.
