Copyright

What’s the status of copyright on this file? Do the provisions that apply to its Wikimedia commons equivalent at commons: File:WayForward Technologies Logo.png apply?

IANAL, but I believe they would. The images are identical but for size, and the Commons page requests a conversion to SVG format, which would render the size issue moot. Calling in the other mods for their opinions as well. --Looney Toons (talk) 15:28, 15 April 2024 (UTC) @Labster @Looney Toons @GethN7 @Robkelk
They should apply. Given it consists of public domain letters and designs, it would count as a trademark, meaning we obviously must make clear we do not represent them (the purposes of illustration as an example do that for us), but it's public domain in the copyright sense. I'm going to disagree with Wikimedia Commons here, because their justification for claiming the image is PD does not take into account the use of colours in specific areas but not other areas. (If this logo is PD by their reasoning, then so is the Wikipedia logo.) Either way, it's still a trademark and -- as Geth has already said -- we need to treat it as Fair Use. --Robkelk (talk) 16:26, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
